This painting, as well as most of these large ones on paper, were built up in many layers, and keeping the integrity of the circle were part of the process, as in nearly every layer the edge meeting the circle with the space surrounding it had to be repainted. My body got very intimate with making this shape, and the intent of making pieces that represented holding within a feminine shape was echoed in the process where the boundary of the edge was to be honored and uncrossed.
